Hot Rods Dominate Series Finale Against Hub City Spartanburgers
In Bowling Green, Kentucky, on a Sunday afternoon, the Hub City Spartanburgers (15-26, 49-58) suffered a significant 11-2 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-14, 74-33) in the series finale. The Hot Rods’ offense unleashed a powerful performance, scoring nine consecutive runs to seal their victory.
The game began with Dominic Niman of the Hot Rods delivering a scoreless top of the first inning, leaving two Spartanburgers stranded. In the bottom of the first, Tony Santa Maria launched a deep home run off Hub City pitcher Enrique Segura (L, 1-4). Nathan Flewelling followed with a single, and Noah Myers drove him in with a two-out double, giving Bowling Green an early lead.
Hub City managed to erase the deficit over the next two innings. In the second, Quincy Scott and Antonis Macias started with singles. Scott then advanced and scored after a flyout by Cal Stark and a crucial throwing error. Casey Cook continued the rally in the third, leading off with a solo home run.
However, Segura’s return in the third inning proved difficult. He walked Santa Maria, who then scored on a two-run homer by Flewelling. The seventh inning saw a major offensive explosion from Bowling Green against Hub City’s Luke Savage. Myers led off with a home run, and two walks followed by a hit batter loaded the bases with two outs. Flewelling then doubled off the right-field wall, clearing the bases and giving Bowling Green an insurmountable 11-2 lead. Cole Roland took over for the final out of the seventh and pitched a scoreless eighth. Jackson Lancaster and Kaleb Corbett combined to shut down Hub City’s offense in the final two innings, allowing no hits.
Following a 4-2 series victory against the South Atlantic League’s top team, the Spartanburgers are set to return to Fifth Third Park for their second-to-last home series of the regular season. They will host the Greenville Drive, the High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, for a six-game series commencing on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. ET.
