In a grand gesture to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States, IndyCar and Penske Entertainment have announced that the August 23 Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C. will now span 250 miles. This decision sees the race distance increased to 147 laps, making it an exceptionally long event for a street circuit and aligning the mileage with America's semiquincentennial celebration.

The newly extended lap count introduces nearly 18% more NTT IndyCar Series racing action, presenting teams and drivers with fresh strategic dilemmas. The expanded 250-mile race is anticipated to necessitate an additional pit stop, opening up more avenues for diverse fuel strategies, meticulous management of Firestone racing tires, and increased overtaking opportunities across the competitive IndyCar field. FOX's Extensive Coverage of the Grand Prix
FOX, IndyCar's exclusive television partner, is set to deliver comprehensive live coverage of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix from Washington, D.C. The augmented race distance will prolong the broadcast window, allowing FOX to delve deeper into the narratives and strategic elements unfolding throughout the afternoon. An extended pre-race show is also planned, with coverage kicking off at 11:30 am ET on Sunday, August 23, leading up to the green flag shortly after 1:00 pm ET.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will make history as the first-ever NTT IndyCar Series race to be held on the streets of Washington, D.C.
