Despite a few errors, the pitching staff, led by Everett Salonen and closer Matnel Jensen, managed to hold off Pierre's comeback attempts. This crucial win propels Jefferson into the semifinals, setting the stage for a highly anticipated contest.
The critical Class A state quarterfinal game of the South Dakota High School Baseball Association (SDHSBA) saw the No. 3 ranked Sioux Falls Jefferson confront the No. 6 ranked Pierre. The early innings were marked by persistent rain, which tested both teams' resilience. However, Jefferson's batters quickly capitalized on Pierre's pitching, securing a commanding 5-0 lead by the third inning.
Cason Mediger initiated Jefferson's scoring spree with a double, followed by Brody Jacobson's RBI double, giving them an immediate 1-0 advantage. Easton Riley then contributed with a groundout, driving in another run. Head coach Matt Kuenzi praised his team's aggressive approach at the plate, emphasizing their readiness to attack early in counts.
