Rick Hendrick shared the details, revealing that Johnson had personally requested to drive the No. 48 for his ultimate race. "He reached out a few months ago, expressing his desire to use the No. 48 for his final Daytona appearance," Hendrick recounted during the broadcast. "After discussions with Ally and NASCAR, we successfully made it happen."
Johnson, who officially stepped back from full-time Cup racing in 2020, has maintained a partial schedule since, including participation in the 2026 Daytona 500 and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event in San Diego.
