Jones Claims O'Reilly Series Victory in Weather-Affected Race

In a dramatic conclusion to a weather-disrupted event, Brandon Jones emerged victorious in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Chicagoland Speedway. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver skillfully fended off Chase Elliott in a NASCAR Overtime showdown, securing his inaugural win of the 2026 racing calendar. This hard-fought triumph followed a considerable five-hour delay caused by inclement weather, adding an extra layer of challenge and anticipation to the competition.

The Cuervo 300, initially slated for an earlier start, faced significant postponement as thunderstorms swept through the area. This delay meant Friday's practice session was also affected, eventually taking place on Saturday in lieu of qualifying rounds. Richard Childress Racing's Jesse Love demonstrated impressive pace during this session, clocking the fastest speed at 173.533 mph. The starting grid for the main event was determined according to NASCAR's rule book, with Connor Zilisch poised to lead the pack alongside Joe Gibbs Racing's Brent Crews from the front row.

As the race unfolded on the 1.5-mile Joliet track, Jones, starting from the 29th position, steadily navigated his No. 20 Toyota through the field. Despite the challenging conditions and a strong contingent of competitors, he managed to lead for 12 of the 201 laps. His ultimate victory, achieved with a slim margin of 0.171 seconds over Elliott, highlighted his strategic driving and composure under pressure. Elliott, a formidable opponent, led a significant 78 laps throughout the race, showcasing his dominance for much of the event.

The top five finishers included Elliott, Jesse Love, Brent Crews, and Austin Hill, underscoring the competitive nature of the race. Justin Allgaier, Taylor Gray, Sam Mayer, Cole Custer, and Connor Zilisch rounded out the top ten. Notably, Zilisch, despite encountering multiple setbacks such as fuel pressure loss, a flat tire, and a spin, demonstrated remarkable resilience to claw his way back into a top-ten position in his No. 1 JRM Chevrolet. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Series is set to continue its season next Saturday at EchoPark Speedway near Atlanta, featuring the Focused Health 250.

This win for Brandon Jones signifies a strong start to his 2026 campaign, providing momentum for future races. The event at Chicagoland Speedway, the series' first return to Joliet since 2019, will be remembered for its weather-induced delays and the thrilling, closely contested finish that saw Jones claim a well-deserved victory.
