Kansas High School Baseball and Softball Tournaments Reschedule Due to Weather

In response to severe weather conditions, organizers of the Kansas high school state baseball and softball tournaments have implemented substantial changes to their schedules. These adjustments aim to ensure player safety and fair competition amidst the challenging weather. While certain venues will maintain their original timings, other crucial games have been postponed or rescheduled, leading to the unfortunate cancellation of third-place matches.

Kansas High School Sports Events Face Weather-Related Delays

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Kansas high school state baseball and softball tournaments experienced significant disruptions due to adverse weather. The Wichita-area games were notably affected, prompting a revised schedule. However, the tournaments held in Manhattan and Lawrence are set to proceed as initially planned. For softball enthusiasts, the Class 6A State Semifinals, featuring a highly anticipated matchup between Campus and Mill Valley, will now kick off at 2 p.m. Following this, Gardner Edgerton and Topeka High will battle it out on the field. Similarly, the Class 5A State Semifinal baseball games will also begin at 2 p.m., with Great Bend challenging St. Thomas Aquinas in the opening match, followed by St. James Academy and Shawnee Heights. Further changes include the rescheduling of the Class 5A State Semifinal softball and Class 6A State Semifinal baseball games to 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29. Unfortunately, all third-place games for both Class 5A and 6A baseball and softball have been canceled as a result of these necessary adjustments.

This situation underscores the unpredictable nature of outdoor sports and the importance of prioritizing participant safety. While the changes may be disappointing for some, they reflect a responsible approach to managing large-scale events during inclement weather. It also highlights the adaptability required from athletes, coaches, and organizers alike to ensure the smooth continuation of the tournaments under revised circumstances.
