As one of the most distinguished programs in college basketball, Kansas has made a notable impact on the Players Era tournament since its inception. Although not part of the inaugural 2024 lineup, the Jayhawks joined in 2025, ultimately claiming third place. This individual agreement between Kansas and the Players Era is distinct from a broader five-year deal the Big 12 Conference established with the festival, which involves eight teams annually and allocates revenue towards player Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities.
The Players Era Festival is set for considerable growth, expanding to 24 teams for the 2026-27 season and introducing a new two-bracket, single-elimination format. With veteran coach Bill Self at the helm for his 24th season, Kansas is slated to commence its 2026-27 Players Era journey against UNLV in the 'Players Era Eight' bracket, alongside other prominent Big 12 institutions such as Baylor, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.
