The Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame recently welcomed two of its most distinguished alumni, Rajon Rondo and Brandon Webb, recognizing their extraordinary achievements in collegiate and professional sports. Both individuals left an indelible mark on their respective fields, achieving remarkable success after their time as Kentucky Wildcats.
Rajon Rondo, renowned for his illustrious career with the Boston Celtics, entered the NBA as the 21st overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. During his sophomore season at Kentucky, he demonstrated his exceptional skills by averaging 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and an SEC-leading 4.9 assists per game. His strategic play and leadership were pivotal to his college team's success and continued to shine in the NBA, where he became a four-time All-Star and a two-time NBA champion. Joining him in this year's induction class is Brandon Webb, a formidable pitcher whose college career at Kentucky prefaced an outstanding professional journey. Webb's dominance on the mound earned him a Cy Young Award and three All-Star selections with the Arizona Diamondbacks, particularly highlighted by his 22-win season in 2008 and his Cy Young-winning performance in 2006. The 49th KSHOF class also includes Lexington native Tyson Gay, a world-class sprinter, and Lebanon native Lisa Mattingly, a highly accomplished basketball official, underscoring the diverse talent celebrated by the institution.
Both Rondo and Webb stand as paragons of athletic excellence, embodying the spirit of dedication and perseverance.
