Key Contenders and Teams for the Talladega Superspeedway Race

For the first time since the season's inaugural Daytona 500, the NASCAR circuit will host a complete roster of competitors at Talladega, with one vehicle facing elimination following qualifying. A total of 41 entries have been registered, including five part-time teams and drivers who will battle for the remaining four positions on the starting grid. This highly anticipated event promises an exhilarating display of skill and speed at the renowned Talladega Superspeedway.

Among the part-time hopefuls, Jesse Love, the reigning NASCAR O'Reilly Series champion, aims to secure his seventh career Cup Series start in the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Love, 21, boasts previous victories at Talladega in both the O'Reilly Series (2024) and ARCA (2023), making him a formidable contender. His team, RCR, has previously fielded a third entry in three races this year, achieving its best performance at Phoenix with Austin Hill behind the wheel.

Joey Gase, 33, representing the No. 44 NY Racing Team Chevrolet, brings a wealth of experience with 93 prior Cup starts dating back to 2014. If he qualifies, this will mark his first start of the 2026 season. Gase's most notable Cup-level finishes, including a career-best 17th in 2020, have occurred at Talladega. The NY Racing Team, despite failing to qualify for the Daytona 500 with JJ Yeley, participated in the recent Atlanta drafting race, where Yeley finished 31st.

The No. 62 Beard Motorsports Chevrolet features Casey Mears, arguably the most seasoned driver among the open entries. The 48-year-old has an impressive 495 career starts, including a Cup win at the 2007 Coke 600. His best Talladega finish, a sixth-place showing, also came in 2007. Mears is reportedly aiming to reach 500 career starts this year, having recently signed a deal with Beard Motorsports, a team known for its focus on superspeedways.

Chad Finchum, 31, will pilot the No. 66 Garage 66 Ford, attempting his 14th career start and second of the 2026 season. Finchum, whose previous best finish was 33rd, has yet to compete in a Cup race at Talladega. His team, owned by Carl Long, is the sole Ford entry among the part-time competitors and has a long history in NASCAR.

Daniel Dye, 22, hopes to make his NASCAR Cup Series debut in the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet, having recently signed a four-race deal. Dye, who completed sensitivity training after a brief suspension, has prior experience at Talladega in lower divisions, securing a third-place finish in Trucks and a tenth in the O'Reilly Series. Live Fast Motorsports, now a part-time entry, has previously achieved a top-20 finish at Talladega.

The upcoming Talladega Superspeedway event promises fierce competition as these five part-time drivers and their respective teams contend for the limited remaining spots on the grid. Their diverse backgrounds and previous performances at the track set the stage for an exciting race, showcasing both seasoned veterans and aspiring talents vying for a chance at victory in one of NASCAR's most iconic races.
