From High School Courts to Collegiate Leadership: Ransome's New Era at Ohio Dominican
A New Chapter: Transitioning to Collegiate Coaching at Ohio Dominican
After achieving remarkable success as a girls' basketball coach at both Marysville and Olentangy high schools, Klarke Ransome has embraced a new challenge. The esteemed 34-year-old coach has been appointed the head women's basketball coach at Ohio Dominican University, a Division II institution. This transition follows the departure of Brianna Sims, who moved to an equivalent position at Findlay after two seasons.
Ransome's Coaching Philosophy: Continuity Amidst Change
Ransome acknowledges the inherent differences in coaching at the collegiate level but remains steadfast in his core principles. He expressed confidence in his ability to cultivate a robust program and a positive team culture, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to high standards and expectations. These "non-negotiable" aspects of his coaching philosophy, which have proven successful in engaging young athletes, will continue to guide his approach at Ohio Dominican.
Leaving a Legacy: Ransome's Impact at Olentangy and Marysville
Ransome's departure from Olentangy Local Schools, where he also served as an adapted physical education teacher, marks the end of a highly productive period. His tenure at Olentangy saw the team achieve a 22-4 record, secure the OCC-Cardinal title, and reach the Division I regional finals in both of his two seasons. During this time, Whitney Stafford, now a Kent State signee, graduated as Olentangy's all-time leading scorer in basketball. Ransome cherishes his time in the Olentangy community, expressing immense gratitude for the support received from players, students, and staff, and believes his transition is part of a larger plan.
A Proven Track Record: Six Seasons of Success at the Prep Level
Prior to his success at Olentangy, Ransome led Marysville to a Division I regional runner-up finish in 2023 and clinched three OCC championships. His impressive six-season high school coaching career culminated in an outstanding overall record of 131-25, a testament to his coaching prowess and dedication.
Ohio Dominican's Vision: A Strong Fit for the Panthers
Jeff Blair, Ohio Dominican's athletic director, highlighted Ransome's extensive coaching experience in central Ohio and his commitment to fostering a holistic student-athlete experience as key factors in his selection. Blair believes Ransome is an ideal candidate to lead the Panthers' women's basketball program, which finished last season with a 14-14 record as a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Personal and Professional Alignment: A Family-Friendly Opportunity
Ransome, a 2010 graduate of North Union and a 2014 graduate of Wilmington College, had previously sought the Ohio Dominican position in 2024. With his wife, Sydney, an occupational therapist at Olentangy's Cheshire Elementary School, and their two young children, the move to Ohio Dominican offers both a significant career advancement and a stable environment for his family. Ransome views this opportunity as a perfect fit, allowing him to establish a new standard and culture at a respected university without the need for relocatio
