Kessler explicitly referenced Dortmund's public comments on the matter, stating, "I have noticed that Dortmund have spoken about it. I can do that now." He confirmed that discussions did indeed take place between the clubs but emphasized that the transfer ultimately fell through. Crucially, Kessler challenged the notion of El Mala's supposed dream to play for Dortmund, asserting, "I never heard Said (El Mala) 'It's my absolute dream to play for Borussia Dortmund.' The way he behaves shows that he's totally proud to be a player of 1. FC Köln." This statement directly contradicts the impression given by Dortmund's managing director, Carsten Cramer.
