Marcus Sedberry's Interim Athletic Director Salary Revealed for Wisconsin Badgers

The Wisconsin Badgers' athletic department sees a significant leadership transition with Marcus Sedberry stepping into the interim Athletic Director role, a position that comes with a substantial salary adjustment. Following the abrupt departure of Chris McIntosh, who moved to a deputy commissioner position within the Big Ten Conference, Sedberry, formerly the Deputy AD and football general manager, will earn an annual base salary of $875,000 during his interim tenure. This financial detail was disclosed through an offer letter obtained by the Journal Sentinel, shedding light on the remuneration for this crucial temporary leadership position.

Sedberry's interim appointment maintains all previous terms and conditions of his employment, with a clear provision for his salary to revert to at least $334,805, plus any future pay adjustments, should he not secure the permanent Athletic Director role. His acceptance of this interim role, effective April 12, occurred amidst the unexpected exit of his predecessor. McIntosh's previous contract had him earning $1.5 million annually, split between the university and the UW Foundation, and included a 25% buyout clause if he left for a comparable administrative or NFL executive position.

Amidst these leadership changes, Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin, who is also set to depart for Columbia University, indicated that a comprehensive national search for McIntosh's permanent successor would soon commence, with interim Chancellor Eric Wilcots overseeing the process. Mnookin expressed full confidence in Sedberry's ability to lead the division during this transitional period, highlighting the importance of his leadership and the support he will receive from campus leadership.

The transition period for the Wisconsin Badgers' athletic department is marked by both financial shifts and leadership changes. This period emphasizes the commitment to stability and continued support for its leadership, ensuring the athletic program moves forward with integrity and a focus on future success.
