The Italian manager, who took over from Pep Guardiola in June, reminded reporters of a similar controversial event from the 2022/23 season when he was Guardiola's assistant. He recounted a match against Manchester United where Bruno Fernandes's goal was permitted despite Marcus Rashford being in an offside position, leading to a 2-1 defeat for City. Maresca quipped that he is still awaiting an apology for that particular decision, reinforcing his belief that such incidents are simply an unpredictable part of football.
