Marlins Reactivate Kyle Stowers After Hamstring Injury

The Miami Marlins have officially reinstated versatile player Kyle Stowers, capable of playing both first base and outfield, from the 10-day injured list. This move comes as the team prepares to face the Boston Red Sox in the opening game of their interleague series.

Marlins Reinforce Roster with Stowers' Return

On Monday, August 24, 2026, the Miami Marlins announced the activation of Kyle Stowers, a 28-year-old first baseman and outfielder, from the injured list. Stowers had been recovering from a Grade 1 left hamstring strain, which placed him on the IL on August 11, with the designation being retroactive to August 10. This marks his second stint on the injured list this season due to a hamstring issue, having previously dealt with a right hamstring strain in April that delayed his season debut until April 19.

Upon his return, Stowers was immediately inserted into the starting lineup, playing first base and batting third. Before this most recent injury, he had a batting average of .242, with 16 home runs and 52 runs batted in over 94 games during the current season. Last year, Stowers earned an All-Star selection, a significant achievement in his career.

Reflecting on his recovery process, Stowers shared his improved mental approach. He stated, “I feel good... I feel more comfortable this time than I did last time.” He elaborated on his psychological resilience, noting, “Mentally, this was my best (IL stint) this time. The last couple times, it was really hard mentally on me. This time I was really bummed, but I made it what it was. It was an injury, didn't make it any deeper than it needed to be. I was a lot more clear-headed this time with the injury. Just took it day by day. I think that was the biggest growth I've made so far.”

Originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round of the 2019 draft, Stowers played parts of three seasons with the Orioles from 2022 to 2024 before being traded to the Marlins. His career statistics across 328 games show a .249 batting average, 47 home runs, and 160 RBIs.

In a corresponding roster adjustment, the Marlins optioned 23-year-old third baseman Deyvison De Los Santos to Triple-A Jacksonville. De Los Santos made his major league debut on March 29 and had recorded three hits in nine at-bats, including one double.

As Monday's games commenced, the Marlins found themselves four games behind the San Diego Padres in the race for the final National League wild-card berth.

Kyle Stowers' return is a testament to the mental fortitude required of professional athletes facing recurring injuries. His candid reflection on his improved mental state during recovery highlights the often-overlooked psychological aspect of rehabilitation. This situation offers a valuable lesson in resilience and the importance of a positive mindset, not just in sports, but in overcoming challenges in any aspect of life. For the Marlins, his return injects much-needed power and experience into their lineup as they push for a postseason spot, demonstrating that a player's mindset can be as crucial as their physical recovery.
