This impressive performance came after a fortnight-long hiatus, proving the Golden Eagles were well-prepared and focused, especially against a Butler squad with a 3-12 overall record and an 0-5 conference standing.
Marquette quickly established dominance, netting four goals within the initial minutes of the first quarter, with Tess Osburn scoring a particularly swift goal shortly after Eileen Dooley's point. While Butler managed to score two consecutive goals, narrowing the gap to 4-2, Marquette swiftly countered with goals from Hanna Bodner and Osburn, extending their lead. The Golden Eagles continued their offensive barrage, with Ella Mautz's goal kicking off a six-goal unanswered run, contributing to a significant 12-3 halftime lead, and effectively triggering a running clock early in the second half.
Although Butler briefly halted the running clock with a couple of goals, Marquette's relentless attack, highlighted by Osburn's fifth goal, quickly reinstated their control. Osburn led the team with five goals, while Dani Serrano stood out with an exceptional nine points, including seven assists, marking one of the best single-game performances in Marquette's history. Goalkeepers Jillian Howell, Mikayla Yang, and Zoey Gottlieb collectively secured the victory, facing limited shots from Butler.
