Maryland Field Hockey: A Pathway to National Excellence
Maryland's Elite Field Hockey Talent Heads to Senior Nexus Championship
Despite an unexpected absence from the NCAA tournament for the second time in three decades, the Maryland field hockey program continues to showcase its deep talent pool. Twelve of its exceptional athletes have been chosen to participate in the prestigious Senior Nexus Championship.
Key Players Representing Maryland at the Championship
The contingent heading to the championship includes a strong core of nine returning Terps, whose experience and skill are expected to be major assets. These players are Maci Bradford, Skylar Gilman, and Jordyn Hollamon as forwards; Brinkley Eyre and Aida Lerubino in midfield; Erin Callahan and Sarah Walker in defense; and Alyssa Klebasko and Ryleigh Osborne as goalkeepers.
Promising Newcomers Make Their Mark
Adding to the excitement are three incoming players who will have an early opportunity to demonstrate their abilities on a national stage before even playing a collegiate game. These rising freshmen, Kendall Gilmore (forward) and Ella Beach and Lily Michell (midfielders), comprise the entirety of Head Coach Missy Meharg's 2026 recruiting class.
The Significance of the Senior Nexus Championship
The Senior Nexus Championship serves as a vital pathway for collegiate athletes aspiring to national recognition. Participants have the chance to earn selection for the 2026-27 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team, as well as other national team selection opportunities, making it a pivotal event in their athletic careers. The championship will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, from July 17-19.
