Maryland men's soccer head coach Sasho Cirovski has undertaken a significant rebuilding effort for the 2026 season, following the departure of over half of his previous squad. The team has officially welcomed 13 new players, a mix of seasoned transfers and promising freshmen, to bolster its roster.
The incoming group includes five transfers who bring collegiate experience. Notably, forward Marco Wright and defender Lilian Fichelle join from Campbell, where they were instrumental in a high-scoring offense and a solid defense, respectively. Midfielder Zack Harris, an All-Big West second-teamer from Cal State Northridge, will add depth to Maryland's midfield. Additionally, forward Dominic Ayella arrives from Lindsey Wilson College with an impressive scoring record, and two-time NJCAA All-American defender Ljubomir Popovic transfers from Tyler Junior College, bringing extensive defensive experience.
The eight-member freshman class introduces a wealth of raw talent and potential. Franklin Affanyi, a highly-touted recruit from Montverde Academy, is expected to contend for a starting position in the backline. Local talent Zach Cielewich, from DC United’s academy, is slated to serve as a backup goalkeeper. The forward line is strengthened by Said El Eyssami, Rodrigo Neri, and Antoine Coupland, all known for their scoring prowess. Midfielders Jason Atakora and Maxwell Sekyi, who previously played together in Ghana, will contribute to the team's dynamics, while forward Dennis Kalanzi joins after a successful stint in the Ugandan Premier League.
