Muskingum University recently announced the appointment of Kylee Marcum as its new head softball coach. With a distinguished four-year tenure as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Marcum's leadership significantly contributed to the Fighting Muskies' impressive 103-62 overall record. Her strategic input helped the team secure four consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament appearances, two coveted berths in the NCAA Tournament, and an exceptional run to the NCAA Super Regionals in 2024, marking a historic achievement for the program.
In a statement released by the university, Kari Winters, Muskingum's Associate Vice President for Athletics, emphasized Marcum's undeniable passion for recruitment and competitive performance, which was evident throughout the selection process. Winters expressed great anticipation for the future trajectory of Muskingum Softball under Marcum's guidance, confident in her ability to sustain the program's legacy of excellence. During her time as a staff member, Marcum's dedication to recruiting and player development bore fruit, leading to a remarkable number of accolades for student-athletes. Under her mentorship, Muskingum's softball program garnered numerous All-OAC, Academic All-OAC, Academic All-District, and All-Region honors. Notably, Madelyn Thomas earned the prestigious John Wells OAC Pitcher of the Year award in 2024, while Cara Taylor was recognized as the Gayle Lauth OAC Player of the Year this season, further underscoring Marcum's impact on individual player success.
Before joining Muskingum, Marcum had a successful playing career at The Ohio State University Newark Campus, where she played for four years. Her exceptional skills as a pitcher earned her the Ohio Regional Campus Conference Player of the Year title in both 2012 and 2014, boasting an impressive 200 strikeouts and a remarkable 0.77 ERA. Beyond her collegiate playing days, Marcum honed her coaching abilities as an assistant varsity coach at New Albany High School and dedicated a decade to the Ohio Stingrays softball organization, serving as both a coach and a showcase director. She earned her bachelor's degree in human services from Southern New Hampshire University in 2015, further solidifying her foundation in leadership and community engagement.
