New York Yankees Reinstates All-Star Pitcher Carlos Rodon from Injured List

The New York Yankees have officially brought back their ace left-handed pitcher, Carlos Rodon, reactivating him from the 15-day injured list after a period of rehabilitation in the minor leagues. This strategic move sees Rodon immediately returning to the rotation, poised to take the mound in a critical Sunday matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers, as the Yankees endeavor to prevent a series sweep.

Rodon's return marks a significant moment for the team, especially given his recent recovery from an elbow procedure. Last October 15, shortly after the Yankees' season concluded, he underwent surgery to remove loose particles from his left elbow and address a bone spur. This necessary intervention sidelined him for a period, leading to his recent rehab assignment.

During his rehabilitation, Rodon completed three starts in the minor leagues, where he recorded a 3.38 ERA without securing a decision. His final preparatory outing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre saw him pitch 6 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits, with two walks and four strikeouts, in an 83-pitch effort. Despite a challenging last rehab start, the Yankees are confident in his readiness to rejoin the major league roster.

The seasoned pitcher, now 33, enters his fourth season with the Yankees and his twelfth major league campaign. He boasts an impressive career record of 93-72 with a 3.73 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across 231 appearances, 226 of which were starts. The Miami native has accumulated 1,409 strikeouts and issued 477 walks over 1,282 innings. Notably, Rodon was an All-Star in 2025, where he set a personal best with 33 starts, achieving an 18-9 record and a 3.09 ERA, and finishing tenth in MLB with 203 strikeouts and a 1.05 WHIP.

In a corresponding roster adjustment to accommodate Rodon's activation, the Yankees optioned right-handed reliever Kervin Castro to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Castro had a brief stint with the New York squad, appearing in only one game where he conceded one earned run in two innings during a 6-0 loss to Milwaukee on Friday. Rodon's rejoining the team is anticipated to provide a substantial boost to the Yankees' pitching staff, offering a veteran presence and proven performance as they navigate the season.
