North Carolina Secures Commitments from Talented Guards Terrence Brown and Matthew Able

In a significant boost for the North Carolina basketball program, the team has successfully secured commitments from two highly-regarded guards: Terrence Brown from Utah and Matthew Able from NC State. These acquisitions are crucial for the Tar Heels, especially under the guidance of newly appointed coach Michael Malone, as he endeavors to rebuild and strengthen the squad following the departure of former coach Hubert Davis.

Terrence Brown, a seasoned player with three years of collegiate experience, spent two seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson before joining the Utah Utes for the most recent season. During his time with Utah in the 2025-26 season, Brown distinguished himself as a top scorer in the Big 12 conference, averaging an impressive 19.9 points per game, placing him third overall. He also demonstrated his all-around game by contributing 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals per contest, starting all 32 games for the Utes. His shooting from beyond the arc stood at 32.7%.

Matthew Able, a freshman from NC State, also brings considerable talent to the North Carolina team. Last season, Able came off the bench for the Wolfpack, averaging 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 steals over 34 games. His three-point shooting percentage was 35.5%. Able's decision to seek new opportunities came after coach Will Wade transitioned to a position with LSU, prompting the highly sought-after recruit to explore other collegiate options.

These recent commitments signify a dynamic period of roster reconstruction for North Carolina. Coach Michael Malone's proactive approach is evident as he works to quickly assemble a competitive team. The addition of Brown and Able follows another key acquisition: guard Neoklis Avdalas, who transferred from Virginia Tech after a strong freshman year where he averaged 12.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds. These strategic recruitments highlight the program's ambition to regain its competitive edge and establish a strong foundation for future seasons.

The integration of Terrence Brown's scoring prowess and Matthew Able's promising versatility is expected to significantly enhance North Carolina's backcourt depth and offensive capabilities. Coach Malone's early success in attracting such caliber of talent underscores his vision and ability to navigate the evolving landscape of college basketball recruiting, setting a positive tone for the team's trajectory under his leadership.
