A critical moment in the game came early in the first inning when Bob Frazier delivered a bases-loaded triple, contributing significantly to Ohio’s initial four-run lead. Pitcher Walker Osborne showcased a dominant performance, completing the entire game and effectively limiting Iowa’s offense.
This win sets up an anticipated rematch between the Hamilton, Ohio, squad and Henderson, Nevada, in the U.S. final on Saturday. Their previous encounter saw Nevada edge out Ohio 6-5 in the tournament's opening match, marking Ohio’s only defeat to date. Josiah Infante was a standout player for Ohio, going perfect with three hits and one RBI, as the team accumulated eleven singles among their twelve total hits. Osborne’s masterful pitching included scattering only four hits and three walks while striking out four batters. Iowa’s sole run came in the fifth inning, driven in by Crue Neff, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback. Kannon Kane pitched 4 1/3 innings for Iowa, allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out five. Both the U.S. and International lower-bracket finals were rescheduled to an earlier 9 a.m. ET start due to impending severe weather.
In the International bracket, Japan’s team also advanced to their final after overcoming Nicaragua with a 4-1 score. Rui Tobata was instrumental for Japan, hitting two doubles, including a crucial two-run double in the fifth inning that broke a tie. Shinnosuke Ijima pitched a brilliant complete game, giving up only four hits and striking out eleven. Nicaragua initially took the lead in the fourth inning through Jose Martinez Padilla’s single. However, Ijima quickly evened the score with an RBI single, followed by Tobata’s game-changing double and another from Tensei Yazawa, sealing Japan’s victory. Ijima closed out the game by striking out the side in the sixth inning. Nicaragua, representing Latin America, had a strong tournament run, defeating teams from the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Mexico before falling to undefeated Curacao in the upper-bracket final. Curacao will now face Japan in the International championship game on Saturday.
