Orioles Recall Brandon Young for White Sox Opener

The Baltimore Orioles have made a roster adjustment, bringing up right-handed pitcher Brandon Young from their Triple-A affiliate, the Norfolk Tides. Young is slated to take the mound for Monday's opening game of the series against the Chicago White Sox.

This decision comes as the team grapples with injuries to its pitching staff. Left-handed reliever Dietrich Enns was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Saturday, due to a foot infection. Furthermore, a starting rotation spot became available following Zach Eflin's placement on the 15-day injured list last week, attributed to right elbow discomfort. Eflin's departure from his March 31st start against the Texas Rangers in the fourth inning prompted concerns, and he is currently seeking further medical evaluation.

Young, recognized as the Orioles' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2024, previously appeared in 12 games for the major league squad in 2025, recording a 1-7 record with a 6.24 earned run average. A notable moment from his past season was an immaculate inning achieved on July 8th against the New York Mets, where he struck out three batters on nine pitches in the fifth inning. His recent performance for Norfolk saw him complete five innings against Memphis on April 1st, allowing only one earned run on five hits, with no walks and four strikeouts. He did not encounter the White Sox in the preceding season.

The return of Brandon Young to the Orioles' roster highlights the dynamic and often challenging nature of professional baseball, where injuries can create unforeseen opportunities for emerging talents. Young's journey from Minor League Pitcher of the Year to a starting role in the major leagues embodies the perseverance and dedication required to succeed at the highest level. His presence offers the team a chance to showcase its depth and provides Young with a valuable platform to demonstrate his continued growth and contribute positively to the team's aspirations.
