Osunniyi Joins Dziki Warsaw, Bolstering Polish Basketball League

Osun Osunniyi, a former Iowa State Cyclones basketball standout, has officially committed to play for Dziki Warsaw in Poland's top-tier OBL league for the 2026-27 season. This move comes after a two-year stint with MLP Academics Heidelberg in the German BBL, where the 6-foot-10 center consistently showcased his skills. During his most recent season in Germany, he averaged 7.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. Furthermore, his defensive capabilities were on full display in the Basketball Champions League, where he notably averaged 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per contest.

Before his time in Germany, Osunniyi built a distinguished reputation in Belgium with Limburg United. His contributions were instrumental in leading the team to a Belgian Cup championship in 2024, a year in which he also earned the prestigious Eurobasket.com All-BNXT League Defensive Player of the Year award. This professional success followed an impressive collegiate career, where he accumulated 1,372 points, 1,027 rebounds, and an astounding 340 blocks. His journey began at St. Bonaventure, where he set a program record with 305 blocks, earning the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year title twice (2021 and 2022) and leading the Bonnies to a conference title as the Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Player. Even as a freshman, Osunniyi demonstrated his future potential by leading all NCAA Division I freshmen in blocks.

Osunniyi concluded his collegiate career at Iowa State, where he continued to be a dominant force, leading the Cyclones in both blocks (35) and dunks (32) during his final season. He also achieved the fifth-highest field goal percentage by a senior in program history, shooting an impressive 57.7% from the field. His consistent performance and defensive excellence throughout his career exemplify dedication and skill. As he embarks on this new chapter with Dziki Warsaw, Osunniyi’s journey inspires aspiring athletes to relentlessly pursue their goals, demonstrating that perseverance and hard work can lead to success at the highest levels of professional sports.
