The Pace Patriots softball team recently achieved a remarkable milestone, securing their third state championship title in the 6A division. This victory, a hard-fought 3-1 win against Bartow, took place on May 23 at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, further solidifying their legacy in high school softball.
This latest triumph adds to Pace's impressive history, which includes previous state titles in 2007 and 2024, with both recent victories coming against their formidable rivals, the Bartow Yellow Jackets. The team's journey to this championship was a testament to their resilience, having navigated through an alternating pattern of wins and losses in their last four state championship appearances. After a loss to Bartow in 2023, they rebounded to defeat them in 2024, followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat to Doral Academy in 2025, setting the stage for their triumphant return this year.
The Patriots' success in the championship game was ignited early, with all three runs scoring in the opening inning. Britten Kettler delivered a crucial two-run double, followed by Haley Olivet's sacrifice bunt that brought Kylie Reed home, giving Pace an early lead. The remaining challenge was skillfully managed by junior pitcher Hannah DeMarcus, whose stellar performance kept Bartow's offense largely at bay. Despite allowing an unearned run and facing challenging situations with bases loaded in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, DeMarcus remained composed, ultimately fielding a ground ball in the seventh to seal the championship. Looking ahead to the 2027 season, Pace is poised for continued success, with five key players, including the formidable DeMarcus, returning despite the graduation of four starters.
