The Pittsburgh Penguins have finalized a two-year contract with forward Hendrix Lapierre, securing his presence on the team through the 2027-28 season. This agreement, valued at an average of $1.3 million annually, marks a significant commitment to the talented player recently acquired from the Washington Capitals.
Lapierre, who is 24 years old, was part of a trade last week where the Penguins sent a 2027 third-round NHL draft pick and a 2028 third-round pick to the Washington Capitals. During the 2025-2026 season with the Capitals, he participated in 74 games, contributing 12 assists and totaling 16 points. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 195 pounds, Lapierre has spent the past five seasons within the Capitals' system, which included time with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
Throughout his National Hockey League career, Lapierre has played 158 games, accumulating 13 goals, 34 assists, and 47 points. His performance peaked in the 2023-24 season, where he achieved a personal best of eight goals, 14 assists, and 22 points in 51 appearances. Additionally, he is a two-time Calder Cup champion, having played 113 games in the AHL. A native of Gatineau, Quebec, Lapierre was initially selected by Washington as the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
This new contract for Hendrix Lapierre represents a strategic move by the Pittsburgh Penguins to strengthen their roster with a promising young talent. His consistent performance and championship experience from his time in the AHL suggest a bright future with the team, offering both offensive contributions and valuable depth. This signing underscores the organization's dedication to building a competitive team by investing in skilled players who can make a substantial impact on the ice.
