Celebrating Baseball Excellence: A Look at Greater Lansing's All-State Stars
Dominant Performances by Top Teams
The Williamston and Portland St. Patrick baseball teams distinguished themselves this spring, each securing coveted regional championships and advancing further than any other Greater Lansing teams in the state tournament. Their success underscores a flourishing baseball culture within the region, fostering numerous standout athletes.
Portland St. Patrick's All-State Quintet
Portland St. Patrick, a team that held the top ranking in Division 4 for much of the season, saw an impressive five of its players receive all-state recognition. Catcher Charlie Thelen, first baseman Tyler Thelen, infielder Jerryd Scheurer, and pitchers Sean Fedewa and Brady Leonard were all honored for their contributions to the CMAC champions, who reached the Division 4 quarterfinals.
Williamston's Trio of Stars
Sharing the CAAC Red title with Mason, Williamston also had a strong showing with three players earning Division 2 all-state selections. Outfielders Kaleb Nielson and Hunter VanSickler, a Grand Valley signee, alongside pitcher Brett Palmer, committed to Saginaw Valley, were key to the Hornets' success in reaching the quarterfinals.
Broader Regional Recognition
Beyond these leading teams, other programs across the Greater Lansing area also celebrated individual achievements. East Lansing's Paul VanDam, a Michigan State signee, and DeWitt's outfielder Joseph Bobeda were recognized as all-state in Division 1. Eaton Rapids catcher Parker Nelson joined Williamston's trio on the Division 2 all-state team.
Division 3 and 4 Standouts
In Division 3, Leslie's pitcher Jackson Fossitt, who is committed to Kentucky, and Ovid-Elsie's catcher Brody Howard received all-state honors. Additionally, Fulton's pitcher Bryson Sattler and Dansville's outfielder Hunter Greenman were celebrated as all-state selections in Division 4, highlighting the depth of talent throughout the region's high school baseball programs.
