Rodgers Re-signs with Steelers for 2026 Season

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has finalized a one-year contract extension with the Steelers for the 2026 season, securing his continued presence on the team. This agreement, reportedly valued at up to $22 million, ensures Rodgers will play his second consecutive year in Pittsburgh. The announcement comes as new head coach Mike McCarthy, with whom Rodgers shares a Super Bowl victory from their Green Bay days, aims to have the veteran quarterback participate in mandatory minicamp in June.

Rodgers' decision to return was initially in question after the departure of long-time head coach Mike Tomlin, a significant factor in Rodgers' initial move to the Steelers in 2025 as an unrestricted free agent. However, his established relationship with McCarthy, who coached him from 2006 to 2018, proved instrumental. Their prior collaboration culminated in a Super Bowl XLV victory against the Steelers, where Rodgers earned MVP honors.

During his 2025 season with the Steelers, Rodgers started 16 games, missing only one due to a wrist injury. He showcased a strong performance, completing 327 of 498 passes (65.7%) for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions. With a career spanning 21 seasons, the four-time NFL MVP boasts an impressive record of 65.1% pass completion, 66,274 yards, 527 touchdowns, and 123 interceptions across 264 games (257 starts).

The veteran quarterback's commitment to the Steelers for another season brings continuity and experience to the team, particularly under the leadership of a familiar coach. His consistent performance and leadership qualities are expected to be vital assets as the team prepares for the upcoming challenges of the 2026 NFL season, with expectations high for a strong campaign.
