A New Era: Tubner's Journey to Louisville and Reunions on the Court
Tubner's Coaching Evolution: From Lady Vols to Cardinals
Roman Tubner, previously an assistant coach for the Lady Vols basketball team, has officially joined the Louisville women's basketball coaching staff. This career development follows his departure from the Lady Vols in April, concluding a two-season stint with the program.
Unofficial Confirmation and Social Media Hints of a New Role
While an official announcement from either Tubner or the Louisville athletic department is still pending, strong indications of his new position have emerged. Tubner's Instagram profile now proudly displays "Louisville WBB," and his X (formerly Twitter) account features a Louisville women's basketball graphic as his cover photo, signaling his new allegiance.
Departure from Lady Vols and Caldwell's Acknowledgment
Tubner's exit from the Lady Vols program in April was confirmed by coach Kim Caldwell. In a statement released on April 2, Caldwell acknowledged Tubner's contributions over the past two seasons and extended her best wishes for his future endeavors.
A Familiar Face: Reuniting with Deniya Prawl
At Louisville, Tubner will reconnect with Deniya Prawl, a former Lady Vol who transferred to the Cardinals' program in April. Prawl was among eight potential returners from Tennessee who entered the transfer portal after the Lady Vols concluded their previous season with a 16-14 record.
Previous Coaching Engagements and Head Coach Aspirations
Before his time with Caldwell's staff in 2024, Tubner served three seasons with the Alabama women's basketball team, culminating in a role as associate head coach during his final year. He also reportedly interviewed for the head coach position at Kennesaw State in March, a role that was ultimately filled by Tianni Kelly.
Lady Vols Coaching Staff Changes and New Additions
Tubner's departure was part of a broader coaching staff shake-up for the Lady Vols. Gabe Lazo, another assistant coach hired by Caldwell from the SEC, also resigned in March and subsequently joined LSU's staff. Caldwell has since bolstered her coaching team by bringing in Bill Ferrara, former associate head coach at Florida State, and Isoken Uzamere, formerly an assistant coach at Georgia.
Diverse Coaching Background and Athletic Roots
Tubner's coaching journey includes various stops at institutions such as Ball State, UNC Wilmington, Indiana State, Austin Peay, Arkansas Tech, and Division II Arkansas-Monticello. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball team at Arkansas-Monticello before transitioning to women's basketball. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Tubner also played collegiate basketball for Centenary from 2008 to 2011.
