Recognizing Elite Performers: Big Ten Medal of Honor and Bauer Athlete of the Year
Rutgers Athletics recently celebrated its most distinguished student-athletes with prestigious honors like the Big Ten Medal of Honor and the Bauer Athlete of the Year. The Big Ten Medal of Honor, awarded to a graduating male and female student-athlete, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional athletic and academic prowess throughout their college careers. This year's recipients, Athan Kaliakmanis and Charlee Crawford, exemplified this balance. Kaliakmanis had a remarkable senior football season, setting program records for passing yards and touchdowns, ultimately leading to his selection in the NFL draft. Crawford, a track and field star, consistently broke school records in sprints and relays, qualifying for national championships and earning All-American honorable mention status. Her consistent performance and dedication made her a standout.
The Bauer Athlete of the Year award acknowledges a male and female student-athlete, from any academic year, who has consistently achieved at a high level in their sport during the most recent academic period. KJ Duff, a football player already on multiple preseason watchlists, was honored for his impressive receiving yards and touchdowns. Katie Buck, a lacrosse player, received the award for her exceptional performance, which included numerous draw controls, ground balls, and caused turnovers, earning her First Team All-Big Ten and All-American honorable mention status. These awards highlight the university's commitment to recognizing sustained excellence and significant contributions to collegiate sports, celebrating athletes who not only perform well but also make a lasting impact on their teams and the university's athletic legacy.
Celebrating Comprehensive Excellence: Graduation Honors and Special Recognitions
Beyond the top individual accolades, Rutgers Athletics also honored student-athletes across all four graduating classes, alongside special awards recognizing broader contributions.
