The San Francisco 49ers have issued their first practice report for the 2026 season, revealing that several vital players participated in a limited capacity during Tuesday's session. The team recently returned from a five-day stint in Australia. Among those listed with limited involvement are defensive end Nick Bosa, who is recovering from a knee injury, and tight end George Kittle, dealing with an Achilles problem.
Bosa's knee injury, a torn ACL sustained in a September 21 game against the Cardinals, required surgery on September 26. While returning this summer, Bosa experienced discomfort and tendinitis, prompting the 49ers to reduce his workload until he rejoined practice on September 2. Despite his return, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris confirmed Bosa's participation in upcoming games but acknowledged uncertainty regarding his playing time. Similarly, Kittle's status remains somewhat ambiguous. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak indicated Kittle is in 'good shape' to play, despite having surgery on his right Achilles following a playoff game on January 11. Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the Rams' team physician, performed the procedure. Both Bosa and Kittle are expected to be on a snap count if they play, managing their return to full strength.
Further additions to the limited participant list include defensive tackle Alfred Collins (knee), linebackers Luke Gifford (hamstring) and Dre Greenlaw (Achilles), defensive tackle Gracen Halton (ankle), defensive end Romello Height (ankle), and fullback Kyle Juszczyk (finger). Defensive tackle James Thompson did not practice due to a hamstring issue, while cornerback Upton Stout was a full participant despite an Achilles injury.
The resilience and strategic management of player health are crucial in professional sports. Despite the initial setbacks with key players, the team's methodical approach to recovery and reintegration reflects a commitment to long-term success and player well-being. This dedication ensures that athletes can return to peak performance, contributing to the team's collective goals while inspiring fans with their perseverance and sportsmanship.
