The eagerly anticipated annual basketball showdown between Sarasota and Manatee County's top high school seniors unfolded with captivating displays of talent and sportsmanship. Both the boys' and girls' all-star games culminated in decisive victories for Sarasota County, underscoring the exceptional athletic prowess within the region. The event, held at Hoagland Arena, provided a memorable farewell for many graduating athletes as they showcased their skills one last time on the high school stage.
In the boys' contest, Sam Reindel from Sarasota High School was a standout, earning the Most Valuable Player award for his impressive 18-point contribution. His leadership propelled the Sarasota squad to a commanding 96-81 triumph over their Manatee counterparts. Reindel was not alone in his stellar performance; his Sarasota High teammates, David Young and Sam Revill, also reached double-digit scores with 12 and 10 points respectively. These athletes represented a Sarasota team that had a remarkable season, concluding as the Class 7A state runner-up.
Manatee County's team, despite the loss, featured several noteworthy individual efforts. Evan Roberts of Parrish Community High delivered an unforgettable performance, not only clinching the dunk contest at halftime with his impressive aerial maneuvers but also adding 21 points to his team's tally. Roberts, who is set to continue his basketball career at the University of Jacksonville, expressed his joy in playing his final game in the local arena. Additionally, Blair Phillips from IMG Academy led all scorers with 26 points for Manatee. Phillips, a 6-foot-8 talent, remains undecided about his collegiate path, considering options ranging from walking on at Florida Atlantic to playing Division II in Florida or potentially not pursuing college basketball.
Other key contributors for the Sarasota boys included Feliz Ordanz of North Port High with 17 points and Liam Crowley of Two Twelve Academy with 15. On the Manatee side, Bayshore's Kaiden Ingram chipped in 10 points. The boys' 3-point contest was won by Ben Milliken of Sarasota Christian, adding another layer of excitement to the evening.
The girls' all-star game was equally compelling, with Sarasota emerging victorious with a 60-46 score. Jayden Brester of Riverview High, in her final competitive basketball game, delivered a dominant performance, leading her team in rebounds, scoring 8 points, and rightfully claiming the MVP title. Brester, a multi-sport athlete, will transition to playing volleyball at Lees-McRae College in North Carolina. Her teammates from Booker High, fresh off a Class 4A State Final Four appearance, also shone brightly. Kennedy Guy led Sarasota with 14 points, while Yvette Brown and Marayah Stuart contributed 12 and 8 points, respectively.
A unique twist saw Cardinal Mooney's Talia Buser and Charlie Scibeli switch to the Manatee team to balance the rosters. This change proved to be no hindrance for Buser, who sparked a 15-1 second-half rally for Manatee and finished with an impressive 13 points. Buser's memorable night continued as she won the girls' 3-point contest, showcasing her long-range shooting ability before heading to Newberry College in South Carolina to play basketball. Ella Gottlieb and Assata Stoudemire, both from IMG Academy, also contributed significantly to Manatee's score with 13 and 10 points, respectively. These all-star games not only highlighted the exceptional talent among the senior class but also celebrated the camaraderie and competitive spirit inherent in high school sports.
