Seahawks Secure Defensive Tackle Leonard Williams with $90 Million Extension

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly secured a substantial three-year contract extension with defensive tackle Leonard Williams, amounting to a potential $90 million, with a guaranteed sum of $56 million. This agreement marks a significant commitment from the Seahawks to Williams, placing him firmly within the ranks of the National Football League's top earners at his position based on average annual compensation.

At 32 years old, Williams was nearing the conclusion of his previous three-year, $64.5 million deal, which he signed with Seattle in March 2024. The new terms elevate his annual earnings to a level comparable with Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive tackle Vita Vea, making them tied for the fifth-highest paid players in their role across the league.

Prior to the Super Bowl in February, Williams had expressed his dedication to the sport, stating his intention to continue playing as long as his passion for the game remained strong. He also highlighted his diverse interests outside of football, including activities such as gardening, cooking, and spear fishing, which contribute to his overall fulfillment.

The Seahawks initially acquired Williams in October 2023 from the New York Giants in exchange for second- and fifth-round draft picks. General Manager John Schneider, who had previously attempted to trade for Williams, has consistently praised him as an ideal "culture fit" for the Seattle organization. Schneider recounted in February the immediate positive impact Williams had on the team, noting his exceptional energy and effort during his initial practices.

Schneider emphasized that Williams' high standards positively influenced his teammates on both offense and defense. He humorously recalled scouts at practices inquiring if Williams was aware of how highly regarded his abilities were by the front office. Williams' performance in 2025 earned him an All-Pro second-team selection, contributing 7.0 sacks to the NFL's top-ranked defense.

A first-round draft pick by the New York Jets in 2015 out of Southern California, Williams has accumulated an impressive 61.5 sacks over 175 regular-season games, including 166 starts, across 11 NFL seasons. This extensive experience and consistent production underscore his value to the Seahawks.

This new contract for Leonard Williams not only recognizes his exceptional talent and on-field contributions but also underscores the Seattle Seahawks' strategic investment in a key defensive anchor. His leadership, work ethic, and continued passion for the game are expected to play a crucial role in the team's future success, solidifying his position as a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come.
