Somerset County has proudly announced the spring sports all-stars from both the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference (LHAC) and the WestPAC, celebrating the remarkable talents and dedication of its high school athletes. These honors underscore a season filled with outstanding performances across baseball, softball, and track and field, with numerous local students receiving well-deserved recognition for their hard work and skill.
In the baseball division, Somerset's team saw significant representation on the LHAC all-star roster. Pitcher Colt Hagans and infielder Braeden Flower were both distinguished with first-team honors, playing pivotal roles in leading their team to victory in the West section championship. Flower also demonstrated his versatility by earning a second-team spot as a pitcher, alongside teammate Garret Reese, highlighting the depth of talent within Somerset's pitching staff.
Softball athletes from Somerset also shone brightly, with pitcher Brooklynn Thomas and infielder Riley Wiencek securing first-team West accolades in the LHAC. Their contributions were instrumental in their team's competitive season, showcasing their athletic prowess and commitment to excellence on the diamond. The track and field events also brought acclaim to Somerset County athletes. Rodney Garwood of Somerset earned first-team honors in the pole vault for boys' track and field, demonstrating exceptional skill and technique in his discipline. On the girls' side, Libby Marteeny, also from Somerset, was a standout performer, achieving first-team honors in both the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs. Her dual recognition highlights her dominance and endurance in middle-distance events.
Beyond the LHAC, the WestPAC conference acknowledged additional athletes from Somerset County for their stellar spring seasons. Shanksville-Shade's baseball team celebrated Grant Boozer and Lincoln Saylor as all-stars, while Turkeyfoot Valley's Corban Stimmell and Lee Bowers were also recognized for their baseball talents. In softball, Shade-Shanksville's Payton Maddy, Hayden Maddy, Tori Bowers, and Patty Kovacs were named to the all-star team, alongside Turkeyfoot Valley's Rhylan Rugg, Kiley Mitchell, and Jessica Pepe. These selections underline the widespread athletic talent across various schools in the county.
The track and field all-stars for WestPAC included Madelyn Naret, Michael Kipp, and Braxton Newman from Shade, further cementing Somerset County's reputation for producing high-caliber athletes.
