During the week of September 21-26, 2026, high school sports teams across Southwest Florida delivered impressive performances in various competitions. This overview highlights significant achievements in golf and volleyball, showcasing the dedication and talent of young athletes.
In boys' golf, the Estero team distinguished itself by securing a sixth-place finish at the Crutchfield/Hawkins Invitational in Sebring, tallying a score of 306. Notably, Estero's Jesus Bethencourt and AJ White both recorded scores of 74, placing them in a tie for 17th individually. On the girls' side, the Oasis golf team dominated the same invitational, triumphing by a significant margin of 13 strokes. Senior Savanna Odjick led her team's success with an impressive score of 87, earning her seventh place overall.
Volleyball courts also witnessed intense action, with several teams engaging in competitive matches. IMG Black emerged victorious over ECS in a closely contested match, securing a 3-1 win with set scores of 23-25, 26-24, 28-30, and 28-30. Ava Irwin of ECS was a standout player, contributing 19 kills and 11 digs, while Gaby Zuleta and Ellie Chapman provided strong defensive play with six blocks each. Elsewhere, SFCA delivered a commanding performance, sweeping Everglades City 3-0 with scores of 25-17, 25-5, and 25-21, propelled by Ava Becker's 10 aces and 12 kills, Addie Hanson's six aces, and Emerson Hart's 26 assists. First Baptist also achieved a clean sweep against Barron Collier, winning 3-0 with set scores of 25-15, 25-12, and 25-14.
