Spurs Embrace Streaming Era with DAZN Partnership

The San Antonio Spurs are charting a new course for their broadcast future, transitioning from conventional cable television to an innovative partnership with the global streaming giant, DAZN. This strategic shift, announced for the upcoming 2026-27 season, marks a significant departure from decades of traditional viewing, positioning the Spurs at the forefront of a rapidly evolving sports media landscape. The collaboration aims to deliver an immersive and accessible experience for fans, providing a comprehensive viewing package that extends beyond live game coverage.

San Antonio Spurs Announce Landmark Streaming Deal with DAZN

In a groundbreaking move, the San Antonio Spurs revealed on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, their partnership with the international streaming service DAZN, headquartered in London. This alliance will make DAZN the primary platform for distributing the majority of the team's locally televised games, moving away from traditional regional sports networks. The agreement encompasses 67 regular-season matchups and all five preseason games, excluding only those exclusively chosen for national broadcast.

Frank Miceli, Chief Commercial Officer at Spurs Sports & Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm for the new venture, stating that the partnership offers Spurs enthusiasts an intuitive and cutting-edge platform to follow game action and access exclusive behind-the-scenes content. This move reflects a broader industry trend where sports franchises are seeking direct-to-consumer streaming solutions as traditional broadcast models face challenges. The Spurs are not alone in this migration; teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers, and Cleveland Cavaliers have also recently inked deals with DAZN, while the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, and Washington Wizards leverage DAZN to broaden the reach of their existing in-house networks.

Shay Segev, CEO of DAZN Group, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, highlighting the Spurs as an iconic sports brand deeply rooted in their community. He affirmed DAZN's commitment to building a premier entertainment destination for sports fans in the United States, aligning with the Spurs' dedication to innovation and fan engagement. The platform promises to deliver live games, augmented by pre- and post-game shows, highlights, exclusive narratives from behind the scenes, and original programming designed to foster a closer connection between fans and the team. The Spurs organization will maintain full control over the production of all broadcast content.

While the majority of games will transition to DAZN, the Spurs will still offer 22 games via a yet-to-be-announced local over-the-air broadcast partner. Additionally, DAZN will feature selected content from other entities under the Sports Sports & Entertainment umbrella, including San Antonio FC and NBA G League Austin Spurs games. The service will operate on a pick-and-pay model, allowing fans to subscribe to the Spurs' dedicated channel independently. Scheduled to launch in the coming weeks, the subscription service will be available across Central, South, and West Texas. A free seven-day trial will precede monthly passes at $19.99 or a season pass for $119.99. Early bird discounts are available for Official Spurs Fan Club members who join by September 9.

This strategic move by the San Antonio Spurs to embrace streaming platforms like DAZN offers a compelling glimpse into the future of sports broadcasting. It underscores a pivotal shift from the static model of cable television to a dynamic, on-demand digital experience, driven by changing consumer habits and technological advancements. For sports franchises, this transition presents an opportunity to forge a more direct and personalized relationship with their fanbase, offering curated content and flexible viewing options that traditional broadcasts often cannot. The ability to access games and exclusive behind-the-scenes narratives through a dedicated app means fans can engage with their favorite team anytime, anywhere, transcending geographical and platform-specific barriers. This paradigm shift not only enhances accessibility but also creates new revenue streams and deeper fan engagement possibilities, setting a precedent for how professional sports will be consumed in the years to come. It challenges the conventional understanding of sports media, pushing the boundaries of content delivery and fan interaction in an increasingly digital world.
