Surf Legend Nathan Fletcher Transforms Ocean Prowess to Skate Culture

Nathan Fletcher, a name synonymous with audacious feats in big-wave surfing, recently exchanged his oceanic endeavors for a terrestrial showcase of action sports. Known for his legendary rides, including pioneering the helicopter 'acid drop' into a wave and navigating the challenging waters of Teahupo'o, Fletcher took center stage at a unique event, offering fans a rare opportunity to connect with the surf icon on dry land.

This special occasion was the second iteration of AMAC, the Art Music Athlete Collective, an initiative curated by Weedmaps' WM Sports. Held at FICUS Gallery in San Clemente, California, the event on Saturday, June 20, presented an exhibition of striking photographs capturing Fletcher's iconic moments, alongside vibrant live musical performances by bands such as Beauty School Dropout, The Mainliners, and Slackr. The gathering also boasted the 'Never Been Done (NBD)' experience, attracting a formidable roster of action sports luminaries. Among them was fellow surfing star Bruce Irons, a recipient of the esteemed Eddie Aikau Invitational, and a formidable lineup of skateboarders led by the influential Stevie Williams. Williams, celebrated as a pioneer in street skating, the founder of DGK (Dirty Ghetto Kids), and Reebok's inaugural professional skater, was joined by notable riders Andrew Topa, Daniel Sandoval, and Kaden 'Dubby' Stone.

The momentum continued seamlessly the following day as Weedmaps extended the skateboarding spirit across the nation with SESH'N. This series of events celebrated Go Skateboarding Day on Sunday, June 21, simultaneously igniting skate communities in ten different cities. Enthusiasts convened at renowned spots like New York's Tompkins Square Park and the West L.A. Courthouse plaza, engaging in spirited best-trick competitions, generous giveaways, and open sessions throughout the day. A highlight in New York was Jefferson 'Yiyo' Obando's flawless 360 flip, encapsulating the vibrant energy of the nationwide celebration.

Such events underscore the vibrant spirit and interconnectedness within the action sports community, fostering camaraderie and inspiring a new generation of athletes. They remind us that the pursuit of passion and excellence, whether on towering waves or urban landscapes, continually pushes boundaries and unites individuals through shared experiences and mutual admiration.
