Kyes secured his entry into the major championship through a remarkable performance at the U.S. Open Final Qualifying event held at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Georgia. In a competitive field of 75 skilled golfers, Kyes distinguished himself by tying for fourth place, clinching one of the five coveted spots available for the main event. His qualification highlights his dedication and skill, positioning him as a promising contender to watch.
During the intense 36-hole, single-day qualifying format, Kyes demonstrated exceptional prowess, achieving an impressive score of 11-under par. He delivered rounds of 67 and 66, showcasing consistent and high-level play. This U.S. Open will be Kyes's first foray into a major tournament, representing a significant milestone. Throughout his freshman year at Tennessee, Kyes participated in 12 tournaments, maintaining a solid scoring average of 71.58 and completing 20 rounds at or below par. He will not be the only individual with ties to Tennessee competing at Shinnecock Hills; he will be joined by sophomore Jackson Herrington and former Tennessee player Caleb Surratt. For Herrington, this will be his second major championship appearance, while Surratt will be making his major tournament debut alongside Kyes.
