The Houston Texans recently secured wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots in a trade. This transaction, initially confirmed by Boutte on social media before an official announcement from either team, involved the Texans sending safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028 to the Patriots, according to various reports.
This acquisition comes on the heels of a significant setback for the Texans' receiving unit: Jayden Higgins, their projected second-string receiver, suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice session with the Las Vegas Raiders. Boutte, who was a sixth-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft, recorded 33 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns in the previous season. The Patriots, in turn, had an abundance of talent at the wide receiver position after obtaining A.J. Brown in June and extending Romeo Doubs with a substantial four-year, $68 million contract in March. In response to Higgins' injury, the Texans have also brought in experienced receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard over the weekend to reinforce their roster. Last year, Higgins, who was expected to play a key role alongside star player Nico Collins, concluded his rookie season with 41 receptions, 525 yards, and six touchdowns.
