Elite Recruit's Future with Lady Vols in Question
Oliviyah Edwards' Request for Release from Tennessee
Oliviyah Edwards, a standout five-star basketball prospect from the 2026 class, has officially sought to be discharged from her signed national letter of intent with the University of Tennessee. This news was brought to light by Talia Goodman from Rivals, signaling a significant shift in the collegiate athletic landscape.
Edwards' Prominence and Prior Commitment
Edwards is recognized as a premier talent, holding the second-highest ranking in the ESPN SportsCenter Next 100. Her signing with Tennessee had been a major coup for the Lady Vols, representing their most highly-rated recruit since Jordan Horston joined the team in 2019. Edwards had chosen Tennessee over other prominent programs such as Florida, LSU, South Carolina, USC, and Washington.
Edwards' Public Announcement and Coaching Tenure
In September 2025, Edwards publicly declared her commitment to the University of Tennessee, expressing excitement to join the Lady Vols. Her decision to seek a release comes as the 2026-27 basketball season approaches, marking head coach Kim Caldwell's third year leading the program. Caldwell has a respectable record of 40 wins and 24 losses (16-16 in SEC play) over two seasons, including two NCAA Tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 berth in 2025.
