Lansing State Journal Showcases Standout High School Athletes

The Lansing State Journal has announced its latest cohort of nominees for the prestigious Boy High School Athlete of the Week, recognizing stellar performances from September 7th to September 12th. Among the distinguished contenders is Rylen Richey, a formidable cross-country runner from Grand Ledge, who secured the runner-up position at the Averill Invitational on Saturday, September 12th, clocking an impressive time of 16:42.4. His current season best, 16:01.9, ranks as the third-fastest in the region, underscoring his consistent excellence.

In the realm of football, Gibson Rondy, the senior quarterback for Ithaca, has continued his sensational start to the season. During the Yellowjackets' commanding 63-7 victory over Saginaw Nouvel, Rondy displayed exceptional accuracy, completing 9 out of 10 passes for a remarkable 305 yards and throwing four touchdowns. Over the first three weeks of the season, he has connected on 37 of 39 passes, accumulating 777 passing yards and an astonishing 11 touchdowns, establishing himself as a key offensive force.

On the tennis courts, Noah West of Lansing Catholic demonstrated his dominance and contributed significantly to his team's success. West played a pivotal role in the Cougars' triumphs over Eaton Rapids and Charlotte. He delivered a flawless performance at No. 1 singles against Charlotte, winning 6-0, 6-0, which helped secure a 7-1 team victory. Earlier, he achieved another decisive win, 6-1, 6-0, against Eaton Rapids, contributing to Lansing Catholic's sweeping 8-0 win. These athletes exemplify the spirit of competition and dedication in high school sports.
