Tottenham Halts Search for New Sporting Director, Focuses on Current Leadership

Tottenham Hotspur has decided to postpone its search for an additional sporting director for the time being. This move follows the departure of Fabio Paratici, who left the club in February to return to Italy for personal reasons, after joining Tottenham last October in a dual sporting director role alongside Johan Lange.

According to discussions at a recent Fan Advisory Board (FAB) meeting, the club will resume its quest for a new sporting director after the summer transfer period concludes. Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham clarified during the June 16 FAB meeting that this appointment is no longer an immediate priority. Instead, the club's current recruitment efforts during this transfer window are being spearheaded by Johan Lange, head coach Roberto De Zerbi, and Rafi Moersen, who has recently taken on the role of director of football operations.

During the meeting, Venkatesham expressed confidence in the existing team, stating, "The club trusts its personnel, but if an individual emerges who can enhance our current setup, we will pursue that opportunity at the appropriate moment, which is not during the summer window." He also refuted media speculation, asserting that many names linked with the position have not even been considered by the club. Furthermore, both Peter Charrington, the non-executive chairman, and Venkatesham acknowledged the 2025-26 season as "unacceptable" after the team barely avoided relegation, with Charrington emphasizing that every decision at Tottenham is evaluated by its potential to improve the football team. Venkatesham also robustly defended Lange, who has faced criticism after Tottenham finished 17th in two consecutive seasons, highlighting Lange's integral role in appointing De Zerbi and emphasizing their collaborative approach to player acquisition.

Tottenham's decision to pause its search for a sporting director signals a period of strategic internal consolidation, emphasizing the capabilities of its existing leadership. This approach underscores a belief in teamwork and a commitment to meticulous planning, ensuring that future decisions align with the club's long-term vision for competitive excellence and sustained success. By fostering a collaborative environment, the club aims to overcome past challenges and build a resilient foundation for a brighter future.
