Ugnius Jarusevicius, a former forward for Nebraska, has officially committed to Arizona, marking a new chapter in his collegiate basketball journey. This move comes after a challenging season with the Huskers, where a back injury severely limited his on-court presence.
The 6-foot-10 Lithuanian athlete entered the NCAA Transfer Portal last month. His time at Nebraska saw him participate in only a single game. Jarusevicius's preseason was marred by a back ailment, leading to his sole appearance in December before he was sidelined for the remainder of the non-conference schedule and ultimately for the entire season in February.
Before joining Nebraska, Jarusevicius had stints with Cal State Bakersfield and Central Michigan. His arrival at Nebraska initially generated considerable anticipation, particularly after a standout performance with the Chippewas. During his junior year at Central Michigan, he led the MAC conference in shooting efficiency, hitting 53.7% of his shots from the field. He also averaged an impressive 16.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, alongside a 31% success rate from beyond the three-point line.
In his lone outing for the Huskers, an 86-55 victory over New Hampshire, Jarusevicius displayed his capabilities in just 11 minutes of play. He contributed 7 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots, maintaining a perfect 3-for-3 record from the field.
This transfer to Arizona signifies Jarusevicius's attempt to regain his form and contribute significantly to a new program, leaving behind the injury setbacks that characterized his time at Nebraska. His previous performance highlights a potential impact player for the Wildcats as he looks to make a fresh start.
