After three rounds of voting, eight exceptional athletes have emerged as finalists. Voting for the top athlete begins on Monday, June 22, and concludes on Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m. This initiative celebrates the outstanding performances across various high school sports throughout the region.

As the curtains close on another exhilarating West Texas high school sports season, the San Angelo Standard-Times, in collaboration with City National Bank, has launched its annual campaign to crown the region's most outstanding athlete. Throughout the season, the communities of West Texas, Concho Valley, and San Angelo have witnessed an abundance of remarkable talent and dedication across a diverse range of sports, including football, volleyball, cross country, swimming and diving, basketball, track and field, tennis, golf, baseball, and softball. These competitions showcased the relentless spirit and athletic prowess of countless young individuals.
The selection process for the prestigious Athlete of the Year award was meticulously structured. Initially, 32 weekly Athlete of the Week honorees, recognized for their exceptional performances during the season, were entered into a comprehensive voting process. This initial phase narrowed the field to a formidable top 16, which then progressed to a second round of public voting. Now, the competition has reached its thrilling final stage, with an elite group of eight athletes vying for the ultimate title. The final round of voting is set to commence on Monday, June 22nd, and will culminate at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25th, giving the community a crucial role in deciding this year's champion.

- Michael Preddy, a standout in Ozona football
- Jesus Garza, an impressive talent from Sonora boys track and field
- Sebastian Gonzalez, representing San Angelo Central boys track and field

- Ella Losoya, a formidable presence in San Angelo Lake View softball
- Will Nye, a promising athlete from Christoval baseball
