This week, the Visalia Times-Delta and Tulare Advance-Register are giving their readers the chance to honor their favorite high school athletes. The voting period is now open and will conclude at noon on Friday, September 4th. Participants can cast as many votes as they wish for their preferred candidate, with a clear instruction that email submissions will not be counted.
The nominees for this week’s accolade include a roster of impressive young talents. In football, standouts such as Connor Cain of Golden West, Isaiah Gomez of Tulare Western, Nathan Gonzalez of Redwood, Xzavier Hernandez of Orosi, James Metcalf of Exeter, and Kayden Silvas of Mt. Whitney have earned recognition for their exceptional plays, including multiple touchdowns, significant rushing yards, and strong defensive performances. Volleyball players Jiannah Freitas from Tulare Union and Aubrey Huitt from El Diamante are also featured for their dominant performances on the court, showcasing powerful kills, aces, and solid defense.
The Athlete of the Week nominations are based on data available to the Times-Delta, highlighting varsity athletes from across Tulare County. To ensure consideration for future ballots, nominations must be submitted by Monday morning following the week's games. Anyone can propose an athlete for any sport by emailing the sports reporter with the player's statistics and, if possible, a photograph.
This initiative not only celebrates the hard work and dedication of young athletes but also fosters a sense of community engagement and support for local high school sports. By encouraging participation in the voting process, it shines a spotlight on rising stars and acknowledges their contributions to their teams and schools, promoting sportsmanship and healthy competition among students.
