The Vermont Principals' Association (VPA) has made significant adjustments to the 2026 fall high school championship schedule for field hockey, soccer, and volleyball, as communicated in a recent announcement on Tuesday, September 15. A primary alteration involves relocating the field hockey and soccer championship matches from the University of Vermont to local high school facilities throughout the state. This move aims to ensure greater accessibility for competing schools and their supporters.
For field hockey, all three championship games are slated for Sunday, November 1st, at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester. Match times are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m., with the exact order of the finals to be determined based on the travel considerations of the participating teams. This marks only the third instance, including the 2020 COVID season, that the field hockey finals will not be contested at UVM's Moulton Winder Field since its opening in the fall of 2005. Lauren Young, VPA Executive Director, explained that UVM's increased athletic activity limits field availability for VPA Championships, and the decision to utilize multiple venues also prioritizes geographical fairness.
Soccer championships will span from Friday, October 30th, to Sunday, November 1st. South Burlington High School will host games on October 30th and 31st, while Rutland High School is set to host four matches on November 1st. The VPA will assign teams to these locations based on their geographical proximity. Game times for October 30th are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and October 31st will feature games at noon and 2 p.m. The Rutland games on November 1st are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. Additionally, all three volleyball championships will be held at St. Michael's College on Sunday, November 1st, with specific game times still being finalized.
