Unveiling the Artistic Treasures at Guild Hall
Installation Highlights
The installation of Guild Hall's 85th Artist Members Show is a sight to behold. The gallery is filled with over 300 pieces of art by people from all walks of life. From the self-taught artist Michael Butler to the established names like Joel Perlman and Eric Dever, each work tells a unique story. Butler's mostly acrylic paintings are narrative folk art with intricate details that captivate the viewer. There are also works by Bastienne Schmidt, Cat Bachman, and many others, creating a vibrant and diverse art exhibition. The show features a mix of styles and mediums, making it a true visual feast for art enthusiasts.Membership and Openness
The two main requirements for participating in the exhibition are being 18 (or older) and being a member of Guild Hall. As long as an artist meets these size requirements and creates original artwork, they can enter the show. This inclusivity allows both serious artists and hobbyists to showcase their work. It's a tradition that celebrates the artistic journey of every artist, regardless of their stage.Melanie Crader, Guild Hall's Director of Visual Arts and Exhibitions, explains, "It's great to see the variety of art here. There are artists at different levels, but they all have a place in this exhibition."Awards and Recognition
The show opened on Saturday, November 16, with a members-only reception. On the same day, Storm Ascher, the Awards Juror, chose Michael A. Butler of Sag Harbor as the Top Honors recipient for his painting "Lilies of the Field." Her still-life paintings use a minimal approach and negative space to create calm and meditative compositions.Viewing and Purchase Options
