Alice's Journey
Alice, played by senior Delaney Harriman, embarked on this magical journey after falling down a rabbit hole. She tried out for the part because of the encouragement of others and felt she could portray the very childish character. For Harriman, theater has been a source of freedom in her struggles with anxiety. "With performing, all barriers are taken away," she said, adding that she is not nervous on stage. She encourages the community to come and witness their hard work. Harriman plans to pursue a degree in health sciences at Harding University.
During a rehearsal on Wednesday, Nov. 13, Alice was seen talking to Humpty Dumpty, played by Carolyn Hildebrand. Others in the scene were Addison Baker and Sara Sisemore. This shows the detailed and engaging nature of the play.
The Cheshire Cat's Whimsy
Miles Batson, who plays the Cheshire Cat, uses a purple puppet head made by a friend. He describes the play as "whimsical" and his character as a "very fun role to play". Batson, who played Sebastian last spring in "The Little Mermaid", is now in his last play at Farmington High. He plans to attend the University of Arkansas after high school and aspires to go into politics. If time allows, he hopes to be involved in theater at the university. "I've been doing theater my whole life. It's one of my biggest passions," he said.
The Cheshire Cat's presence adds a touch of magic and humor to the play, making it a delight for audiences of all ages.
The Queen of Hearts' Bratty Attitude
Rowan Sumers, as the Queen of Hearts, originally wanted to play Alice but found that she loves this character. "It was an unexpected role for me but it fits me very well," she said. "She kinda has a bratty attitude and I get to throw out all my frustrations that most people don't see me do." The play is appropriate for all ages and includes some audience participation, making it a fun show. Sumers said she likes the play because it is a "silly show" and she gets to improvise.
The Queen of Hearts' scenes are full of energy and drama, adding to the overall charm of the play. Lynn Kutter/Enterprise-Leader captured a moment where the Queen of Hearts (Rowan Sumers) was not very nice to Alice (Delaney Harriman), with Blake Jones as the King of Hearts.
All 30 students involved in the play, whether in the cast or crew, have contributed to making this production a success. The play will be presented at the Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21; 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22; and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults, and tickets can be purchased at the door one hour before each performance.
