About the Fostering Community

The Fostering Community is an organization that acts as a bridge between the community and the needs of the foster care system. As Nicole Anthony, the Executive Director, explains, their mission is to make a significant impact. They offer advocacy, resources, and support to ensure that children in foster care have the best possible chance at a fulfilling life.

Youth Development Programs are another vital aspect of their work. These programs provide a safe space for youth to build resilience and reach their fullest potential. Kait Burns, the Youth Program Coordinator, shares that in 2021, they noticed a lack of community among teens and young adults. Through their youth program, they aim to give these young individuals a sense of belonging regardless of their living situations.

October was Foster Youth Voice Month, and the fostering community was extremely busy during this time. They worked closely with teens and young adults, advocating for their current needs and educating the community about foster care. Burns emphasizes the importance of this work in creating awareness and understanding.

The Louisiana Heart Gallery

The Louisiana Heart Gallery, founded by Aimee Poche, is a powerful tool in the adoption process. It showcases traveling photographic displays of children available for adoption from foster care. The team not only recruits foster and adoptive families but also provides photography, videography, resources, and support to children in foster care across the state.

Youth Advisory Board Member Arion Shavers knows the impact of this work firsthand. Adopted from the Louisiana Heart Gallery at the age of 13, he now enjoys bonding with his adoptive family and seeing them grow. This month holds a special meaning for him as he reflects on his own journey.
