Interim Leadership Takes the Reins
Following Rydstrom's dismissal, assistant coach Laurent Courtois has stepped into the role of interim head coach. The team currently holds the 13th position in the Eastern Conference standings, with a record of three wins, seven losses, and four draws, accumulating 13 points.
Rydstrom's Brief History with the Crew
Henrik Rydstrom, aged 50, assumed the head coaching position on December 31st. He was brought in to succeed Wilfried Nancy, who had previously led the Crew to championship titles in the 2023 MLS Cup and the 2024 Leagues Cup. Before joining the Columbus Crew, Rydstrom had a coaching career in his native Sweden, where he managed teams such as Malmo, Kalmar FF, and IK Sirius.

Courtois's Background and Future Role
Laurent Courtois, 47, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously coached CF Montreal from 2024 to 2025, guiding them to an MLS Cup playoff spot in 2024. Furthermore, he led the Columbus Crew 2, an affiliate team, to victory in the MLS Next Pro title in 2022. Courtois is set to make his debut as interim manager when the Crew hosts New York City FC in a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match on Wednesday evening.
