High school cross country teams demonstrated exceptional talent and strategic depth at recent invitational meets. American Fork delivered a commanding performance at the UIAAA Invitational, while North Summit and Union showcased their competitive edge at the Duchesne Invitational, underscoring the fierce athletic spirit prevalent in the early cross country season.
At the UIAAA Invitational held at Spanish Fork Sports Park, American Fork secured championship titles in both the boys' and girls' divisions. The boys' team tallied 49 points, with juniors Chase Hejny and David Webb placing third and fourth respectively, and five runners finishing within the top 19. Carson Stafford of Riverton narrowly clinched the individual boys' title. On the girls' side, American Fork's strategic packing allowed them to win with 58 points, despite Lone Peak's Maya Bybee taking the individual victory. Key runners like Skye Jensen, Sarah Watson, and Shay Smith secured high placements for American Fork, contributing significantly to their team's success.
Separately, the Duchesne Invitational saw North Summit and Union claim team victories on their home course. North Summit's girls' team, led by sophomore Thea Sargent who won the individual race by over a minute, accumulated 36 points due to strong performances from four scorers in the top 12. Union's girls' team finished closely behind. In the boys' competition, Juan Diego's Seamus Arndt took the individual title, but Union's balanced team effort, with Cooper Duncan, Camden Davenport, and Jaxson Bastian placing within the top 11, earned them the team championship with 63 points.
